Director of Science Programs

Tanya Ruble

lives in Arkadelphia, AR and has been the Science Director for AR AIMS since 2020. Tanya spent 22 years in the science classroom before working for AR AIMS. She taught chemistry, Pre-AP chemistry, AP® chemistry, biology, physical science, and ACT prep. In 2015 and 2016, she worked on a project in conjunction with the College Board and New Tech Network to integrate Project Based Learning (PBL) into the AP Chemistry curriculum. Mrs. Ruble served as an AP Chemistry Saturday Prep teacher for the Pulaski County Special School District for several years, wrote the AR AIMS PAP chemistry curriculum, and presented summer workshops for AR AIMS from 2015 to 2020. Tanya is also a College Board Reader for the AP Chemistry exam. Tanya is currently a doctoral candidate at Arkansas State University researching declining student enrollment in Arkansas high school chemistry, physics, and specific AP® science courses.

She enjoys family time with her husband, children and spouses, and five grandchildren in her spare time. Canoeing and kayaking Arkansas rivers and streams bring her relaxation from work and educational pursuits as well as her keen interest in the flora and fauna of the Natural State.

Science Team

AR AIMS Science Consultants provide support to teachers at active AR AIMS schools.  These are done by monthly face-to-face or virtual visits depending on the partnership agreement chosen by the school.  AR AIMS consultants work hard to develop a mentoring relationship with teachers and provide a wealth of experience.  All have retired from successful teaching careers in Arkansas in both AP® and Honors/Advanced courses. 

Adele Barnett

Adele Barnett lives in Jonesboro where she taught at Westside Consolidated School District #5 for 15 years.  She taught Earth Science, Biology, and Advanced Placement Biology.  Adele moved from Westside to Arkansas State University to work as the science specialist at the Rural STEM Education Center for four years.  She just completed her fifth year at Crowley’s Ridge Educational Service Cooperative as the science specialist.  Her primary focus as a specialist was working with teachers to develop and implement the three dimensions of the Arkansas K-12 Science Standards into their lesson plans and classrooms. Hobbies include gardening, travel, and enjoying the grandchildren.

Jennifer Beasley

Jennifer Beasley has been in education for over 25 years. She is a nontraditional teacher. Her experiences in education and outside of education allowed her to work in every aspect of elementary, middle, high school, and college. Her experience includes teacher, Instructional Technology Specialist, School Improvement Specialist, Science Program Administrator, K-12 STEM Director, Academy, Coach/Virtual Coordinator, and Adjunct Professor. Jennifer absolutely loves children and coaching teachers. She has four children and one grandchild.

Marianna Hendrycy

Marianna Hendrycy Graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She received non-traditional teaching licensure and taught AP Biology, Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology for ten years at Har-Ber High School in Springdale, Arkansas. While at Har-Ber, Marianna served as the Science Department Lead Teacher, the Medical Academy Lead Teacher, and the Clinical Medical Internship Program Lead Teacher. She also received the Exxon Mobil Master Teacher Award in Science. Marianna strives to support the teachers she serves to do the best for their students in whatever that support looks like to them.

Karen Ladd

Karen Ladd retired in 2017 after teaching for 40 years in Tennessee and Arkansas. She spent the last 25 years of her career at Nettleton High School in Jonesboro. During her teaching career, she taught various science courses, but her primary focus was chemistry and physics. She has experience in AP Chemistry and AP Physics 1 and 2. She is a Modeling Leader and Instructor. Karen loves to see students and teachers engaged in the learning process and is always eager to share ideas and mentor teachers. Karen and her husband, Danny, have three children and eight grandchildren. Karen has been serving as an AR AIMS consultant since 2017.

Kaye Minter

Kaye Minter is a 30-year veteran teacher who retired in 2020 from active teaching to become an Arkansas AIMS science consultant to impact more students by assisting science teachers in Arkansas. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Southern Arkansas University with minors in mathematics, physics, and chemistry in 1982. Kaye began teaching in 1986 at Arkadelphia High School. After this, she taught at Gordon Central High School in Calhoun, GA, Southern Arkansas University, Stamps High School, and Magnolia High School, acquiring experience with multiple levels of many courses. She also served as department chair and lead AP science teacher during her tenure. She has been Teacher of the Year at several schools and was chosen by the University of Arkansas Chemical Engineering Department as a Distinguished High School Mentor for her work with students in 2012. Kaye became a part of AR AIMS when Magnolia High was added to the program as a Cohort two school in 2009. Kaye is a National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) Laying the Foundation trainer for Middle Grades Science and Biology. She designed and built the AR AIMS LTF Infused Accelerated 7th Grade Science Google Site. She has been the content manager for the Accelerated Physical Science Google Site, AP Environmental Science, 8th-grade on-level science, and Accelerated Biology Google Sitesite. Kaye has been a summer trainer for AR AIMS Google Sites since 2017.

Dale Teague

Dale Teague is from Batesville, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and from Arkansas Tech University with a Master's in Education. Throughout his career, Dale taught all of the sciences in the public school setting and online teaching, AP Environmental Science, and AP Chemistry.
Dale retired from the classroom in 2023 and began working as a science consultant for AR AIMS. He currently resides in Southside, Arkansas with his wife, Lynne.

Jackie Tucker

Jackie Tucker has over 25 years of teaching experience in science. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Henderson State University in 1996 and finished her education degree in 1997. Jackie earned her Master’s of Science in Education from Harding University in 2008. She has taught AP Biology for 16 years and has been an active part of AR AIMS since her school joined in 2011 in cohort 4. Jackie has served as Science Department Chair and Lead AP teacher at Centerpoint High School, as well as the Science Lead on the PLC Leadership Team and her district's coalition team. Jackie has a heart for students and enjoys mentoring new teachers.

Curtis Varnell, PhD

Curtis Varnell, PhD, has an undergraduate degree in science and history and a Master's in History Education from Arkansas Tech University. He has a Specialist in Science Education and a Ph.D in geology from the University of Arkansas and more than thirty years of experience in teaching in Arkansas schools and universities. Dr. Varnell is the former Science Specialist at Guy Fenter Educational Cooperative, was a Fulbright Teacher to Japan, a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and has conducted research in Costa Rica as a part of the Research Experience for Teachers (RET). He has been named the Arkansas Environmental Science and Arkansas Social Studies teacher of the year. Dr. Varnell has presented at more than twenty-five state, national, and international conferences and enjoys working directly with K-12 students and teachers in local classrooms. Dr. Varnell indicated his enthusiasm for K-12 students and teachers with this statement, “I am a big proponent of hands-on engagement and the “being there” experience in science education. Nothing takes the place of experiencing science in the world around us.” Dr. Varnell has written nine books on topics varying from Arkansas history to teaching science in the outdoor classroom and is the assistant editor for the Journal of Environmental Forensics. He writes a local column called "The Timepiece" in seven regional newspapers, including the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Karron Watts

Karron Watts has been employed in the area of education for twenty-three years. Her experience has included working with students from pre-K through college. She has been trained by Staff Development for Educators (SDE) in Differentiation: Theory into Practice; Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works, and has been trained in looking at and drawing conclusions from student test data. As a former Arkansas State Science Specialist, she created and provided professional development for teachers in groups or in the form of onsite modeling of lessons for the teachers. Karron worked as a science teacher in Morrilton Middle School, and as both a science and Gifted and Talented teacher at Morehouse Parish Schools in Bastrop, Louisiana. She later taught science and math at the Magnet School for Science and Math. Karron retired from teaching in 2015 but continued to substitute in classrooms in central Arkansas. She is also an illustrator of children’s books and co-authored Into the Outdoors with Dr. Curtis Varnell.
